Getting to the Heart of the Matter: Caring for the Patient with Cardiac Conditions Keeping pace with emerging evidence, treatment trends, and current practice guidelines in the field of cardiology can be an ongoing challenge for nurses. As heart disease affects many people in the United States, nurses from all scopes of practice are likely to provide care to someone with underlying risk factors or with a cardiac condition. Being up to date with evidence-based information related to care of the patient with heart diseases, heart failure, valvular disease and coronary artery disease allows nurses to better care for cardiac patients. She is a board certified Cardiac-Vascular Nurse and Certified Heart Failure Nurse, American Association of Heart Failure Nurses with over 20 years’ experience. Jessica Thibodaux, APRN, MSN, FNP-C is currently employed by Cardiovascular Institute of the South. She has over 20 years of experience in cardiology. Bart Denys MD - is a board-certified in internal medicine, cardiovascular disease, nuclear cardiology, and interventional cardiology. He is also a diplomate in cardiovascular disease by the American Board of Internal Medicine. He is a fellow of the American College of Cardiology, the Society of Cardiac Angiography and Interventions and the American Society of Angiology. He has been with the Thibodaux office of Cardiovascular Institute of the South since 1994. He is also board certified in medical acupuncture. Activity Learning Outcomes: 1. Summarize strategies implemented to reduce Heart Failure (HF) and Acute Myocardial (AMI) hospital readmissions. 2. Identify current diagnostic assessments of acute and chronic heart failure. 3. Recognize nursing and interprofessional management of acute and chronic heart failure. 4. Describe care of the patient requiring Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement (TAVR) 5. Recognize ECG changes associated with various cardiac conditions. 6. Identify aspects of providing quality care for patients with acute coronary syndrome. 7. Outline trends in cardiovascular health to reduce coronary heart disease.
