According to the CDC more than 34 million people in the United States have diabetes and more than 88 million have prediabetes. The increasing prevalence of diabetes concurrently poses challenges and opportunities for nurses in meeting the growing volume and complexity of care needs in this population. Nurses are essential as partners, and as such, need to be aware of latest guidelines, trends, educational resources, and advances in practice. We specialize in providing a comprehensive program of educational services and support to individuals and groups. We work closely with physicians to identify patient’s specific needs and help them develop the self-management skills needed to control their disease. Andrew Majeste DNP, FNP-C, APRN-CNP, BSN, RN is board-certified as a family nurse practitioner by the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners. He is employed by Ochsner Medical Center providing care to patients in the endocrinology clinic specializing in diabetes management. Activity Learning Outcomes: 1. Demonstrate knowledge related to new developments in diabetes care. 2. Recognize current practice standards of collaborative care in diabetes. 3. Understand the effect of diabetes and COVID-19. 4. Identify the challenges associated with rising diabetes healthcare burden. 5. Differentiate management of continuous glucose monitoring. 6. Identify methods of providing effective diabetes education.
