FLORIDA — With COVID-19 cases on the rise across the state of Florida, Patch wants to know how this is affecting your daily habits and how you interact with people in public. Florida is leading the country in new cases with 12,647 new cases of COVID-19, the highest daily number of cases since late January, according to data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. This made up 23 percent of all national cases reported to the CDC Wednesday, Patch reported. "Just four states accounted for more than 40 percent of all cases in the past week, with 1 in 5 of all cases occurring in Florida alone," White House COVID-19 coordinator Jeff Zients said Friday. Related Story: Attorney General Tests Positive As FL Coronavirus Rates Surge More than 73,000 new coronavirus cases were reported in the state from July 9 to 16, according to the Florida Department of Health's most recent COVID-19 Weekly Situation Report. The state also saw a 15.1 new case positivity rate and 78 deaths during this period. Some counties even reported positivity rates higher than 20 percent, including Dixie (30.2 percent) and Union (30.6 percent) counties. From July 9 to 15, the state saw nearly 46,000 new cases and an 11.6 percent positivity rate, according to state data. The week before that, from July 2 to 8, Florida reported nearly 24,000 new cases and a 7.9 percent positivity rate. The number of new coronavirus cases began decreasing in Florida during the spring but saw an increase in June with the spread of the delta variant in the state.
