COPIAGUE, NY —A Long Island family is in mourning after an alleged drunk driver caused an accident Saturday night in Queens that left a mother and her 10-year-old daughter dead. Diana Granobles, 31, and her daughter Isabella, from Copiague, were driving to pick up Granobles' husband from work when they collided with an Altima driven by Tyrone Absolam, 42, of Jamaica. Absolam has been charged with manslaughter, vehicular manslaughter, criminally negligent homicide and driving while intoxicated. According to Univision News, Granobles' husband Lorenzano became worried when she didn't arrive in time and used an app on his phone to find her location, discovering the accident scene. Police say Absolam was speeding on Rockaway Boulevard near JFK Airport when the accident happened around 9 p.m. There were also two minors in the car and another passenger, all transported to the hospital. Granobles and her daughter were declared dead at the scene. Granobles' niece Kassandra Granobles set up a GoFundMe page to help raise funds for the family's funeral costs. "This family is the epitome of the 'American Dream' as they worked their tails off to do right by their three children. I'm just here asking for your generosity to help cover my family in funeral arrangements," she wrote.
