About this Job The Zero Waste Facilitator will be responsible for the operation of the Zero Waste Facilitator service including the timely arrival and clock-in onsite at the designated time, photographing and documenting the trash, recycling and composting situation and evaluating contamination levels, identifying problem areas/tenants, and other oberservations. Upon discovery of contamination, unacceptable materials or unsorted bins, the Team will address the situation, removing misplaced materials and ensuring all bins are free from contamination. Leaving the area clean and documenting the final situation and end-time is also part of the job. The job can involve transferring material from carts or dumpsters, requiring lifting and bending activity. Sturdy clothes and shoes are required, any other Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), such as gloves and vests, will be provided. Litter pickup, sweeping and sorting material including trash, recyclables, food waste and compost is a constant part of the job. Data collection, including taking photos, collecting data such as volume of material types and contamination levels, as well as tracking generation patterns, sources of contamination and other observational note taking is also required as part of the program. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Program Implementation (constant – more than 66% of time): Removing materials from dumpsters, opening and sorting bags of discards into appropriate waste streams. Dumping bins and bags into dumpsters. Jumping into dumpsters. Quality Control (constant – more than 66% of time): Ensuring the compost and recycling streams are clean and free of contamination, evaluating material brought by building occupants and tenants, providing feedback, hand sorting of waste materials, doing periodic waste audits and ensuring appropriate destination of materials. Prioritizing safety and alerting supervisor and/or management of unsafe situations or practices. Education and Outreach (frequent – under 33% of time): Attend and review workshops and training materials from Waste Busters to master knowledge of recycling and composting systems, administer and develop educational presentations for clients and their tenants. Educate building occupants and tenants of proper recycling practices. Development, Education, and Training (frequent –34-66% of time): Enforce safety rules and regulations; learn best practices; participate in safety trainings and other training; administer trainings developed with Waste Busters; act as a courteous professional and demonstrate appropriate work ethics, behavior, and skills both internally and externally. Typical Working Conditions Generally the atmosphere is that of a building loading dock, indoors. Typical working conditions include, but are not limited to, strenuous and frequent lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling; frequent twisting, turning, and reaching; Typical working conditions also include late/after hours shifts. Equipment Used This position requires use of safety equipment including gloves, safety vests, and closed toed shoes. The program often employs trash bins and rolling carts that can weigh upwards of 100 pounds when full.
