WOODBRIDGE, NJ — After months of steadily trending downwards, Woodbridge's coronavirus cases are on the upswing again, as the Delta variant takes hold in New Jersey.
"Woodbridge Township had our worst week in a long time, with 63 new cases in the last seven days," said Mayor John McCormac on Friday. "Three on Friday, five each on Saturday and Sunday, 10 each on Monday and Tuesday, nine on Wednesday and then a whopping 21 (Thursday, July 22)."
The infected span all age groups and include 18 Woodbridge residents under the age of 21.
McCormac said he had no way to tell if those people who now have it had been vaccinated.
According to the state Dept. of Health, 75 percent of all Woodbridge residents 18 and older have received one dose; 68 percent are fully vaccinated. There are 79,738 people in Woodbridge age 18 and older.
Woodbridge does not have data on how many children 12+ in Woodbridge have been vaccinated.
About 70 percent of all New Jersey adults are vaccinated, according to NJ.com. However, about 4 million people in the state remain unvaccinated.
Officials ranging from former Trump official Sarah Huckabee Sanders to Democrat Gov. Murphy are urging the American public to get vaccinated.
Woodbridge Township will have another vaccination clinic this Thursday, July 29, from 3-5 p.m. at the Woodbridge Health Center for both first and second doses. Walk-ins are welcome.
