NEW HAVEN, CT — After learning that a white Nissan Rogue driving recklessly in the East Shore neighborhood at around 3 in the morning Sunday was stolen, officers tried to stop the car, New Haven police said. The driver, Hector Delgado, 18, jumped out and took off on foot, police spokesperson Scott Shumway said, and while being chased by cops on foot, ditched a gun. Police caught him "a short time later and a semi-automatic handgun was recovered," Shumway said. Delgado was arrested and charged with possession of a pistol without a permit, possession of a high-capacity magazine, having a weapon in a motor vehicle, second-degree larceny, third-degree criminal mischief, interfering with police, and traffic infractions. Delgado was held on $300,000 bond and taken to be arraigned in Superior Court, Shumway said.
