HAMDEN, CT — A New Haven man who was shot by the person whose vehicle he was trying to steal in late May was recently arrested in connection with the attempted theft, according to police. Police responded to Alltown Fresh, 1941 Dixwell Ave., on May 29 on the report of an "attempted carjacking," according to Capt. Ronald Smith. Smith said an investigation found that a 29-year-old Meriden resident entered the store while leaving his motor vehicle running. While he was inside the store, a vehicle that was stolen 90 minutes earlier in Milford, entered the parking lot, according to Smith. "Dulyn Foreman emerged from the stolen vehicle and entered the victim's vehicle," Smith wrote in a news release. "Foreman placed the vehicle in reverse, nearly striking a female that attempted to intervene. "As Foreman attempted to exit the parking lot, the owner of the vehicle exited the store and ran towards his vehicle. Foreman subsequently exited the vehicle, reportedly in the possession of a firearm. The owner of the vehicle then removed a firearm from his waistband and fired one shot, striking Foreman in the leg. Foreman reentered the stolen vehicle out of Milford. He was driven to Yale-New Haven Hospital for medical treatment." Detective Shawn Nutcher conducted the investigation that led to an arrest warrant for Foreman. Foreman, 20, of Howard Avenue, was arrested July 23 and charged with third-degree robbery, attempted first-degree larceny and tampering with a motor vehicle. He was held in lieu of a $50,000 bond with a court date of Aug. 30.
