PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTY, MD — Prince George's County Public Schools will require face masks in schools this fall for students, teachers and staff, according to NBC Washington. Monica Goldson, chief executive officer for Prince George's County Public Schools, said the county has a 50 percent vaccination rate for students that are eligible for coronavirus vaccinations. The Baltimore Sun reported Maryland's positivity rate is now above 2 percent, an increase from the 0.45 percent seen in June. Before the Delta variant appeared in Maryland, the county's school system announced its plan to bring back full-time in-person learning for all grade levels this fall. However, the school system is offering virtual learning programs for students that do not want to return to in-person instruction. D.C. Public Schools will require masks this fall as well, officials said Friday. The 2021-2022 academic year is set to begin on Sept. 8, now with required masks.
