Just moved from LA, where I ran a bi-weekly Actor-Writer Meetup - called Message...from the Muse that had 270 members ( total - we had about 15-25 people coming every event) Writers submit 10-15 pages of their work for consideration - and, if/when chosen - we host a PERFORMANCE NIGHT - bi-weekly - where we cast their work in the room with actors in attendance - and they perform that section of the work.... It's a lot of FUN, has a spoken word/coffee house vibe - and it's a way for actors to work their instrument in a no-pressure environment - and it helps writers IMMEASURABLY to hear their work. We do 4-5 pieces per night, and between "show" #3 and 4 - we have musical guests - solo/duets/trios - performing 4-5 songs. In LA, it was a way for artists to PLAY - but it inspired a lot of WORK COLLABORATIONS. I had Emmy nominated actors, writers, etc - as well as newbies - participating. I'm looking to start the Fort Lauderdale chapter asap ( a movie I wrote is going into production in Miami in December) - hoping to meet great talents and cool people. There was a nominal monthly fee to participate ($15) If you are a writer who wants their work considered - please email a 10-15 page pdf portion of your work for consideration. If you are an actor - send a short video reel. If you are a singer/songwriter - send a few songs via mp3. The events run about 2.5 hours. Alternate WEDNESDAY NIGHTS. From 7-9 ish.
