1st Denver Recreational Marijuana Deliveries Set To Begin Soon

DENVER, CO — Denver's first marijuana deliveries could be sent out by early August — a local dispensary chain received the city's first delivery permit and it's set to begin deliveries soon, company representatives said. Strawberry Fields, which has dispensaries in Denver, Pueblo, Dumont and Trinidad, was one of the only companies to apply for the delivery permit. The business partnered with delivery company Dooba LLC to launch the service. Denver City Council approved marijuana delivery in April, and delivery licenses opened in June. Denver is the second city in Colorado, behind Aurora, to approve delivery. The deliveries can only be sent to residential addresses, and recipients will have to show their ID, just like alcohol deliveries. A range of products can be delivered — flowers, edibles and vapes; however, they will be capped at 8 grams of concentrate, 1 ounce of flower and 800 milligrams of THC in edibles. Some Denver marijuana businesses said they're waiting to see how the process plays out — particularly regarding consumer demand — before applying for delivery licenses. In order to apply for licenses, dispensaries are required to qualify for a social equity policy, which stipulates: They must be a Coloradan who's been arrested or convicted of a drug offense; or,Have a family member who's been arrested or convicted of a drug offense; or,They must have lived in a higher crime or low socioeconomic designated zone; or,Were subject to civil assent forfeiture due to a drug offense. If a business doesn't qualify for the equity policy, the company can enter into a contract with a social equity delivery business, as Strawberry Fields has done with Dooba LLC. The social equity policy definition was adopted by the Colorado Legislature in 2020.
