Description
AUSTIN, TX — Austin Public Health will reopen two COVID-19 testing sites as coronavirus cases and hospitalizations continue to rise in the Austin Metro.
The two sites will be George Morales Dove Springs Recreation Center in southeast Austin and St. John's Testing Center in west Austin, officials said Thursday.
The recreation center on 5801 Ainez Drive will be open from 1 to 7 p.m. Tuesdays through Fridays and from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays and the testing center on 7211 N. 35th Street will open Thursday. Its hours will be 1 to 7 p.m. Tuesdays through Fridays and from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays, authorities said.
Austin Public Health encourages those with insurance or a primary care provider to contact their doctor for an assessment if they are experiencing symptoms. Other testing options for those with insurance include pharmacies and urgent care centers.
Officials said neighborhood testing sites do not require an enclosed vehicle, reducing the barrier of needing a car. Patients may arrive by foot, on a bicycle or motorcycle or in a vehicle. All individuals are required to wear a face covering when arriving for testing.
Testing is available with or without an appointment. However, scheduling an appointment is recommended to save time and to confirm test availability for a given day, authorities said.
Individuals can schedule a test at online at covid19.austintexas.gov or by calling 311 or 512-974-2000. Individuals unable to access the testing sites can also call the equity hotline at 512-972-5560 to see if they qualify for an at-home test.
