Man Faces Murder Charge In Missel Thrush Drive Homicide

AUSTIN, TX — An 18-year-old man faces a murder charge in connection to the death of a 35-year-old man in northwest Austin on July 12. Aaron David Garza, 18, was arrested July 13 by the Lonestar Fugitive Task Force and faces a murder charge in the death of Joshua Cooper. Garza was booked in Williamson County Jail, officials said. Austin police said they received a 911 call around 10:38 p.m. for a shots fired call at 10241 Missel Thrush Drive. When officers arrived, they found Cooper unresponsive laying in the street in front of the home. Police said the 35-year-old appeared to have been shot. Officers attempted life-saving measures as did Austin-Travis County EMS; however, he was pronounced dead at the scene at 11:05 p.m. The man was later identified as Cooper. Authorities aid they found two female victims in front of 10245 Missel Thrush Drive who had sustained head injuries from an apparent assault. The two women, who were related to the victim, were taken a hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Officials said the suspect had fled the scene after the shooting. On July 13, the Travis County Medical Examiner's office conducted an autopsy and determined the official cause of Cooper's death was by gunshot wound. His death was later ruled a homicide. Garza was arrested the same dame in connection to the homicide, officials said.
