Shorewood's Village Has Biggest Groundbreaking Event In Years

SHOREWOOD, IL — By next May, the village of Shorewood is expected to have its new public works facility built along West Mound Road, the biggest construction project since the new Village Hall was constructed in 2007. On Saturday morning, new Shorewood Mayor CC DeBold along with several fellow village board members and village employees gathered for a ceremonial groundbreaking event. Pacific Construction was hired as the contractor for the new public works building. Shorewood wants to have the new facility finished around April 29, DeBold said. About two dozen Shorewood employees will work out of the new building once it's ready. The new building will encompass about 71,000 square feet and the entire project represents about a $14 million investment for Shorewood, DeBold said. These days, Shorewood's population is 17,495, DeBold said. "This is a great opportunity to move public works into one building," he said. "It will definitely be nice to have one centrally located facility for all the streets, water department and parks maintenance. The village bought this (land) about 10 to 15 years ago.
