Description
CHATHAM, NJ — Back by popular demand to the Chathams is Mahjong Open Play at the Library of the Chathams, kicking off this coming Wednesday, July 28, from 1-3 p.m.
Registration is required for open play, which will take place in the Woman's Club Room. Click here to register. The library has four Mahjong sets available that attendees can use, but those registered may need to bring their own set, should there be more than 16 players.
Galina Natenzon, assistant director of the library said she and others working at the library have had Chatham residents tell them how much they'd missed playing Mahjong during the pandemic. The library had Mahjong classes in the works for March and April 2020, which were sidelined because of COVID.
"If all goes well and there is no more bad news with COVID, we are considering starting Mahjong classes at the library in the fall." Natenzon said.
With most COVID restrictions lifted and life overall starting to return to pre-COVID ways, the library has restarted in-person programs that had been popular before the pandemic began.
Carolyn Dempsey, who is Chatham Borough's Council President and a professional musician, had her first in-person musical appearance at the library since the start of the pandemic on Thursday, July 8. Dempsey's music events are back on at the library, after having gone virtual in March 2020 because of COVID-19.
Chatham's drop-in storytime is also on again each Monday and Tuesday.
