NOVATO, CA — The Novato Police Department is helping with the evacuation effort in the state's biggest fire this year.
Six NPD officers have been assigned to patrol the evacuation areas impacted by the Dixie Fire, the Marin law enforcement agency said.
The Dixie Fire as of Sunday night had torched 192,849 acres in Butte and Plumas counties since it broke out July 14, The San Francisco Chronicle reports.
"We are grateful we have the opportunity to assist other communities during this time," the NPD wrote in a statement on Twitter.
"Our thoughts are with everyone affected and the agencies working to stop this fire."
