PERRIS, CA — A Perris couple face misdemeanor charges in connection with a marijuana growing operation at their home and felony child endangerment charges for keeping processed pot near three young children, authorities said Saturday.
Sheriff's deputies served a search warrant Friday at a residence in the 500 block of Shawnee Road and two nearby lots, said Sgt. Kasim Bikul of the Perris Sheriff's Station.
Deputies detained 28-year-old Eduardo Javier Alvarez Villegas and 31- year-old Emma Villasenor Aguilar.
"A loaded 9mm handgun and approximately 35 pounds of processed marijuana were in the master bedroom, accessible to and occupied by three children under six years old," Bikul said. "Child Protective Services was notified. The children were later released to a family member from the scene."
It was unclear if either Villegas or Aguilar are parents of the children.
Deputies seized 702 marijuana plants about 100 pounds of processed marijuana, two loaded 9mm handguns, loose 9mm ammunition, two cellphones and $1,000 in cash, Bikul said. The plants were destroyed.
Villegas and Aguilar were later arrested and each booked for suspicion of felony child endangerment and misdemeanor marijuana charges, he said.
Both were released later that day, according to sheriff's inmate records.
