Description
CREST HILL, IL — For the first time in several weeks, the Will County State's Attorney's Office of Jim Glasgow has filed animal cruelty charges. Two residents of Crest Hill, Julio Castro and Areli Lopez, are accused of leaving their dog "in extreme hot conditions that resulted in hyperthermia, the criminal complaint stated.
The dog's condition was life-threatening and happened on July 6, prosecutors said. Castro and Lopez are listed as co-defendants. They face one charge of cruelty to animals and four charges of violation of owner's duties.
The later charges indicate that Lopez and Castro "failed to provide adequate shelter and protection from the weather for their dog" as well as "a sufficient quantity of good quality wholesome food and water to their dog."
Additionally, Lopez and Castro are accused of having "failed to provide veterinary care when needed to prevent suffering for their dog."
A Will County bench warrant was issued by Judge Sarah Jones for the arrests of the two Crest Hill residents, who live in the 2400 block of Caton Crest Drive.
