TUSCALOOSA, AL — Tuscaloosa, along with the rest of the nation, will be cheering on Tuesday as former Alabama softball standout Haylie McCleney and Team USA Softball take on Japan in the Gold Medal Game. The game will air at 6 a.m. local time on NBCSN. Click here to subscribe to our free Tuscaloosa Daily newsletter and breaking news alerts Led at the plate by McCleney, Team USA finished undefeated in pool play at the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games to secure a chance to bring home the gold. The game will be a rematch of the most recent Olympic softball final in 2008, which saw Japan win 3-1. A product of Mortimer Jordan High School, the Morris native leads Team USA with a .643 batting average over five starts hitting in the leadoff position. During pool play, she went 9-for-14 with four walks and four runs scored. Over her time in Tuscaloosa from 2013-2016, McCleney was the program's sixth four-time All-American, including three first-team selections.
