Newstead Equestrian Center is seeking part-time help in the barn. The Stable Hand position is a labor-intensive and detail-oriented job. The Stable Hand will perform the following tasks under the supervision of the Barn Manager. -Clean individual horse stalls by removing manure and placing new bedding as directed. -Cleaning of barn to include sweeping/vacuuming, cobwebbing, etc. -Turnout and bringing in horses. -Feed and water horses as specified. -Loading and unloading hay and shavings as needed. -Work/prepare arena areas as directed. -Monitoring of the health and well-being of each horse and reporting any issues or concerns to the Management team. -Maintain a clean and clutter free work environment. -Follow all barn safety and security policies and procedures, report accidents, injuries and unsafe work practices to management. -Other duties as assigned by the Barn Manager. QUALIFICATIONS: -Must have experience working with large animals, preferably horses. Experience working on a farm or stable is preferred. -Ability to communicate effectively. -Must be at least 18 years of age. -Ability to exercise sound judgment and discretion, following instructions completely with attention to detail. -Must be able to remain focused and work effectively, efficiently and cheerfully on own and with a team. -Must be able to remain calm, think clearly and act quickly in emergencies. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:  -Capable of bending, lifting (up to 50 lbs.), raking, shoveling, walking, running, and kneeling. -There is intensive contact with horses whose nature is sometimes unpredictable. -Working environment is both indoors and outdoors. Must be able to perform job duties in all types of weather conditions. -Must be authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.
