Description
This event will recognize community members for their outstanding service to mental health care in our community. On October 15, 2021, Mental Health America of Monroe County is holding its Monroe County Mental Health Champions: an Annual Fundraising Gala and Recognition Dinner. In addition to recognizing members of our community who exemplify our mission by providing outstanding service to and advocacy for those dealing with mental health issues, we will also be celebrating the many roles played by all of us in promoting good mental health and providing support for those in need. Many opportunities to network and collaborate with Mental Health of America of Monroe County's current projects, goals, and community efforts will be available. The evening’s program will include an update on Mental Health of America of Monroe County and Monroe County Suicide Prevention Coalition initiatives, a recognition ceremony honoring nominees in six different categories, a keynote address by IU Chief of Police Jill Lees, followed by live music for dancing and socializing provided by local band Justin Case. Event ticket includes dinner and one drink, cash bar available all evening. We look forward to a memorable night with attendees from many different professions, all brought together by a common belief in the importance of mental health in our community. Mental Health America of Monroe County (MHA-MC) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting mental health and supporting mental health consumers and their families through education, referral and service. We achieve our mission by educating the public about ways to preserve and strengthen mental health; by sponsoring support groups; by serving as a clearinghouse for information about mental health promotion, prevention, and treatment resources in our community; and by fostering innovation in policy, research, practice, and services. Over the past two years, MHA-MC and our subcommittees have been hard at work in our community fulfilling our mission in several ways. We have: Sponsored a series of Breakfast Learning events with continuing education credits for attendees. Supported numerous support groups in Bloomington. Obtained and disseminated $8000 of state funding for suicide prevention. Collaborated with Monroe County School Corporation on suicide awareness and prevention trainings for teachers. Sponsored radio ads for suicide awareness and prevention. Hosted an International Survivors of Suicide Loss Day event. Supported the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention’s local Out of the Darkness Walk. Collaborated with the Bloomington Police Department to bring Mental Health First Aid training to its officers. Placed suicide prevention placards in parking garages in Bloomington. Funded a Bring Change to Mind student led mental health awareness group at Bloomington High School North. Collaborated with Monroe County Systems of Care to update and maintain the Monroe County page of Lookup Indiana, a website providing information about social service resources in our community.
