Description
An opportunity for those involved in the restoration of the Indian River Lagoon to exchange ideas on communicating with public. NOTE THAT THIS IS A "BY INVITATION" EVENT. Please register only if you have received an inviatation. Aliki Moncrief, Executive Director of the League on Conservation Voters, will start the workshop with a presentation on communicating most effectively for advocacy. How can we inform and inspire the citizens so that they are prepared to serve as advocates for clean water? Next, the approximately thirty attendees will be asked to join breakout groups on four topics to make recommendations on specific communications regarding each topic. After about forty five minutes in the breakout sessions, the total group will reconvene and each group will share their recommendations. The final titles of the breakout groups may not be settled untilthe day of event. The draft titles under consideration are listed below: Policy changes needed to protect and restore the Lagoon (revised stormwater rules, wasterwater treatment, low impact development, advanced septic, etc.).The need for more conservation land to reduce the nutorent pollution entering the Lagoon.Importance of supporting the renewal of the SOIRL Program sales tax in 2024 (and other local funding programs in other Lagoon Counties). The need for additional funding and potential new sources to speed restoration and reduce pollutants entering the Lagoon. Our hopes and expectations are that by spending an afternoon together on these issues, our organizations will be better prepared to achieve"the vision of the Indian River Lagoon NEP: ONE LAGOON ONE COMMUNITY ONE VOICE A 501(c)(3) non-profit that serves as an independent, unifying voice to restore the Indian River Lagoon — connecting and coordinating with active community partners to maximize efforts toward our shared vision. We envision complete restoration of healthy, clear waters and an ecosystem teeming with diverse fish and marine life; a place where we can take our families to swim, recreate, and be — without fear.
