POSITION: Crew Supervisor Full-Time / Benefited / Hourly / Non-Exempt RECRUITMENT ID: 788 COMPENSATION: $19.00 - $22.00 per hour LOCATION: Big Chico Creek Ecological Reserve (BCCER), Butte Creek Ecological Preserve (BCEP), and contract project sites. The expectation is the position will report to BCCER the majority of the time and work will be split between BCCER and contract work in the surrounding community; Candidate must be a California resident at the start of the position ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Under the supervision of the Ecological Reserves Project Manager, responsibilities include both programmatic elements and maintenance. Programmatic Elements • Carry out vegetation management on the Reserve or in surrounding community in ecologically sensitive areas using a variety of tools • Serve as first point of contact with project sponsors and ensure clear communication of contract expectations, safety, and accountability • Assist in designing projects on the Reserve and contracted projects • Responsible for the supervision of employees, interns and volunteers • Assist in developing and implementing training for the crew • Responsible for ensuring crew safety and project regulatory compliance • Supervise the completion of projects through tracking and reporting • Assists with planning and implementing pile burns and prescribed burns Maintenance Elements • Responsible for ensuring proper tool maintenance for contract and project work • Assist with shop inventory, organization, and protocol development • Performs field work including, but not limited to, invasive plan eradication; fence repair; road and trail maintenance using a variety of hand and power tools • Assist in facilities maintenance and minor repairs EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS: • Experience performing duties similar to those described above • An understanding of conservation of natural and open space resources • Ability to communicate well with a wide variety of constituents including volunteers, student staff and interns, visitors to the reserves, faculty and staff • Experience supervising others • Experience implementing and ensuring safety compliance • Manage time and complete tasks independently • Sedentary and physical labor • Capacity/willingness to work in extreme weather conditions • Ability to lift/carry up to 50 pounds unassisted • Candidate must be in possession of valid driver's license and automobile liability insurance. Participation in the DMV Employer Pull Notice Program (driving record) is required. The candidate will be required to update their insurance with Chico State Enterprises Human Resources when necessary. Preferred Qualifications • A Bachelor’s degree in biology, environmental science or related field •Knowledge of native and non-native plan species •Basic Knowledge and Understanding of CEQA •Familiarity with a variety of hand tools including chainsaws, brush cutters and small equipment •Basic Fire Fighter II or equivalent •Wildland Fire Chainsaw Training S-212 BENEFITS: Benefits for employees working 30 hours or more per week include employer paid life insurance ($50,000) and long-term disability; options for health, dental, and vision insurance; FSA; 14 paid holidays including 1 personal holiday; vacation accrual (initially 10 days/year); sick leave (up to 12 days/year); employer contributions to your 403(b) retirement plan (up to 8%).
