Press release from the City of Tucson: July 25, 2021 The removal of existing asphalt, subgrade preparation and base paving work will take place at the Broadway and Campbell Avenue intersection from 6 p.m. on Friday, July 30, 2021, until about 5 a.m. on Monday, August 2, 2021. During this work, the south side of the Broadway and Campbell Avenue intersection will be closed to travel. Eastbound and westbound travel on Broadway will not be affected by this work. Northbound travel on Campbell Avenue will be prohibited through the intersection. The traveling public is asked to detour east on 13th Street and north on Norris Avenue to access Broadway. Southbound travel on Campbell Avenue approaching Broadway will not be allowed to travel through the intersection but will be allowed to turn eastbound or westbound onto Broadway. Please see the below map for additional travel information. Electronic message boards are in place to advise the traveling public of this closure. This schedule is subject to change due to inclement weather or unforeseen circumstances. The Broadway Improvement Project from Euclid Avenue to Country Club Road began in mid-January. The project includes widening the roadway to six travel lanes, landscaped medians, buffered bike lanes, sidewalks, multiple HAWK pedestrian crossings, and bus pullouts. A new underground storm drain system is being constructed throughout the project limits. The project is scheduled to be complete in December 2021. The Regional Transportation Authority, a political subdivision of the state and independently governed, has invested more than $1.2 billion in transportation projects and services to improve mobility, safety, economic vitality and quality of life in the region. The RTA collects a half-cent excise (sales) tax from its special taxing district within Pima County to fund its 20-year regional transportation plan. The plan and tax were approved by voters in May 2006. The Broadway Improvement Project from Euclid Avenue to Country Club Road is part of the RTA plan and is managed by the City of Tucson.
