Description

Join Walsh Construction Safety Manager Nate Ricker and Oregon OSHA Senior Occupational Health Consultant Chris James in 2021 Heat Updates. The call to address the hazards of working in high heat is part of an Oregon OSHA emphasis program. Heat illness poses a serious threat to workers whenever they are not prepared for hot weather. Temperatures are already high and, as they rise again this – and every – summer, Oregon OSHA urges the community to focus on heat illness prevention. Oregon OSHA adopted an emergency temporary rule on July 8 with requirements aimed at protecting workers from extreme heat. The rule applies to all outdoor workplaces and indoor workplaces that are affected by extreme heat. The rule was put into place after a deadly heatwave swept the Pacific Northwest and record-breaking temperatures were measured throughout the state. Join Walsh Construction Safety Manager Nate Ricker and Oregon OSHA Senior Occupational Health Consultant Chris James as they discuss the common signs, symptoms, and risk factors of heat-related illness, the methods to adapt to working in hot environments and the importance of immediately reporting heat-illness symptoms in yourself or co-workers.
