Description

A community-based skateboard deck painting and design workshop Help paint and design community-based skateboard graphics for legendary skateboarder Tonee Tracker, best known for their undeniable contribution to the "Big Air Poetry" movement of the late 80's. Text-based graphics were captured prominently in photographs during the heyday of vert skateboarding, providing skaters who had the ability to pull off higher and higher airs opportunities to convey messages to the masses. As skateboarding shifted to street-style, the language moved from the underside of skateboard decks to ridden surfaces, creating a unique conversation between spectator and performer. Re-live some of the creative wordplay in this combo make/skate program. Participants will be introduced to design techniques and have access to spray paint, acrylic, markers, and stencils for their word creations. Blank decks will be provided on a first-come, first-served basis (materials, space, and distancing limited to ten participants each session). Other props will be available and encouraged for use. All boards will be displayed through the end of the Takeover residency in August, then donated and/or auctioned with funds donated to youth organizations. Two sessions will take place: Saturday, July 24, 2-4 p.m. Saturday, July 31, 2-4 p.m. Possible skate session at Stevensen Skate Park (two blocks away from CY) after the workshop. This workshop made possible by the generous 3AP contributors through www.3arts.org *Please note this is based on a fictional character but let's pretend they're real.
