Hey y’all! I run a study group to read and discuss philosophy, classic literature, political-economic and social theory and occasionally the odd sci-fi novel. The general orientation of the group is towards radical libertarian socialist, anarchist, democratic confederalist and communalist ideals, but that doesn’t mean we only read authors from that perspective, or even from the left generally. Our interest is in a broad self-education on a wide range of topics, and we’re always willing to go in new directions based on the interests of dedicated participants.
You do not have to agree with any of those ideas to participate! It goes without saying that everyone is welcome regardless of race, gender identity, sexual orientation or religious persuasion. Beyond that, we are ideologically inclusive and happy to make room for far-right conservatives, moderate liberals, religious nuts, conspiracy theorists, politically-curious folks and anything in between. We believe in respectful but frank discussion and open disagreement. If you’re willing to sit down and drink a beer (or non-alcoholic beverage if you must) with us and do a bit of reading, you’re cool with us.
Obviously this is a pretty niche interest and a significant time investment. We meet biweekly, typically on Thursdays at various locations around Boston, Cambridge, Somerville, JP etc. If this interests you, let me know!
