MONTGOMERY COUNTY, MD — Find out what you need to know in Montgomery County this week. On the schedule is a County Council meeting — with discussions on who should be conducting traffic stops, proposed new lifeguard requirements and allowing cell towers in residential areas — as well as several food distribution times, library community room reservations, an outdoor concert at the Streetery, and a way to cool off if it gets too hot. First off, the weather is expected to stay hot with temperatures never dropping below 90 degrees. There's a chance of rain on Monday and Tuesday, but Wednesday is expected to be mostly sunny. Thursday and Friday are showing chances of a thunderstorm. Community Room Reservations Have an upcoming event or presentation? The Montgomery County Public libraries are opening reservations for Aug. 2 through the end of the calendar year on Monday, July 26 at 8:30 a.m. Here's the link to register. County Council Meeting The council will meet on Tuesday for a full day of business. Some of the highlights include a vote to make a report on traffic stop data public — and a discussion on whether police should be conducting them — a proposal that could loosen lifeguard restrictions for health club pools, and a vote about an amendment that could allow 5G telecommunication towers to be put in residential areas. Watch the County Council Zoom. (Did you know: County Council sessions will return to in-person meetings on Sept. 13.)
