BUFFALO GROVE, IL — Two families are receiving assistance from the Red Cross after they were displaced from their apartments Thursday night following a fire. Buffalo Grove firefighters responded to an eight-unit apartment building in the 1100 block of Windbrook Drive at around 6:24 p.m. following a report of smoke at a residence, according to a news release.
The department's units extinguished a fire that occurred in one unit that resulted in smoke damage to two units. No residents or firefighters were injured in the blaze.
The cause of the fire has not been determined and is under investigation by the State Fire Marshal, according to the news release.
Upon arrival, firefighters noted smoke coming from the front door and entryway into the building. The Buffalo Grove Police Department assisted in evacuating neighboring buildings while firefighters made an initial attack on the fire. Incident command elevated the response to a Code 4 (working fire response) at 6:31 p.m. with five neighboring departments responding to the scene for additional support, according to the news release. The fire was under control by 6:39 p.m. with all loss stopped at 6:56 p.m.
If a fire is observed anywhere, the Buffalo Grove Fire Department reminds residents to call 9-1-1 immediately to avoid delays in response.
