Description
Mosaic Mirrors is seeking a saxophonist. We had 2 sax before COVID but then things got complicated. Here's a tune we recorded with them: https://open.spotify.com/track/66VoU41RmWCfwmL3wO7l8J?si=d60ae9863a7d47a2 Think Lil Nas X/Daft Punk/LCD Soundsystem/Fela Kuti/Augustus Pablo/Scratch Perry/Yeasayer/Gorillaz/Talking Heads. Think electro-tropical-funk-R&B-rock. James Brown meets Mac Demarco meets Sizzla meets Bob Marley meets whatever gets people dancing. I'm Andrew Scandal, the singer/writer of most of the music. We've got a few fun gigs set up. We were killing it before the sky started falling- were scheduled to play in the Rock and Roll rumble and every gig we were playing was an absolute party! Then the Vid rolled into town... At any rate, we're quite a gaggle- at one point we were 8 people with people playing different instruments on different tracks- 2 electro-drummers, 2 synths, effected vocals, keyboards, bass, guitar, 2 saxophones, flute, and trumpet... Here's us playing live (we had just added those horn parts so they were a bit unrehearsed): https://youtu.be/9kcp23lLCT4 That track is a bit more "laid back" but we also do more uptempo stuff. The main core of the band is still intact though I need to find new saxophonists and potentially expand even more from there. With that many people, our shows were really like parties and we were the #2 night in bar sales of 2019 at one of the bars we play. We are not a jam band (no offense, I did my time at Phish shows!). We "groove", not jam... There are no 5-minute solos to the center of your mind. We're more about locking into a groove ala LCD Soundsystem, Daft Punk etc. It's song-based music, more or less. I want the band to be free to pursue any style from electro-psych to indie-rock to hip hop to whatever. The old "leave your ego at the door" approach! I'm the elder statesman of the band (aka I'm old but I clean up well!) but I was smart enough to fill the band with people mostly in their late 20s- early 30s so they bring out their beautiful friends to shows. We have a big, awesome practice space at The Sound Museum in Brighton. We've all been vaccinated btw and you'd need to be too, as clubs are requiring it. Regarding pay, everyone in the band is doing this for fun- we were making enough from gigs to pay for our space and have a little extra money to throw around, but everyone in the band has day gigs. But if you're looking for a paid-gig, I wish you luck but this probably isn't the gig you're looking for. Also full disclosure we're all a bunch of trash-talkers so have a sense of humor! Here are some other influences to give you an idea: Tame Impala Mac Demarco MGMT Gorillaz Timber Timbre Thanks and best of luck with your music either way!
