Seeking Musicians for Classic Rock Band

Meets

Germantown Avenue near Moreland Avenue, Philadelphia PA

Description

I'm seeking other amateur musicians in Mt. Airy, Chestnut Hill and nearby areas to build a classic rock band from the ground up. I play guitar and do some vocals, and am looking for drums, bass, keys, lead vocals and possibly a second guitar. The goal is to put together a few set lists, polish the songs into reasonably tight arrangements, and play out once or twice a month at local bars, community events and similar venues. I'm months away from retirement, have a fairly open schedule, and am fully vaccinated. The emphasis will be on covers of classic rock numbers, but I'd also like to include a mix of stuff drawn from other genres - electric/country blues, jam, garage, punk, progressive, alternative, psychedelic, etc., and maybe even some originals. My overall vision is an artful combination of solid harmonies, well-turned lyrics and flat out electric attitude. A set list might include: I Can't Explain (The Who), The Wind Cries Mary (Jimi Hendrix), Devil's Radio (George Harrison), Heavy Fuel (Dire Straits), Helen Wheels (Paul McCartney), Got To Get Better In A Little While (Derek and the Dominos), Learn To Fly (Foo Fighters), Tightrope Ride (The Doors), Any Road (George Harrison), Jumpin' Jack Flash (Rolling Stones), Cassidy (Grateful Dead), Rock n Roll (Lou Reed), Absolutely Sweet Marie (Bob Dylan), The Jean Genie (David Bowie), Around The Dial (The Kinks), You Wreck Me (Tom Petty), Bye Bye Love (The Cars), Get Over It (The Eagles) I'm MUCH more concerned with finding folks who are thoughtful, respectful and genuinely interested in this project than with whether their musical experience and skills exactly match my own. Age and gender are unimportant, and you don't need to play at a professional level - I don't (not yet, anyway). What's ESSENTIAL is that you: • have a real desire to perform this kind of music • are competent with your instrument beyond a beginner level • are available for rehearsals (about weekly, at least until a few sets are firmed up) • show up reliably, and give advance notice when you can't be there • are willing to give and receive constructive criticism as well as appreciation • ask for what you want, hear what others are asking for, and be available to negotiate the difference Rehearsals will be at a local rehearsal studio, unless someone has suitable space in their home. There are at least three such studios within about 15 minutes of Northwest Philadelphia. If this connects with where you are musically and personally, please get in touch and tell me a little about yourself and how you might participate.
