The Reentry Initiative (TRI) will kick off its fifth anniversary year on Thursday, Aug. 19 with “From Surviving to Thriving”: A Benefit Concert with the Chasqui Quartet, a string ensemble known for its commitment to immersive concert experiences, audience development, and innovative programming. This concert is one of only a handful of public performances during the Chasqui Quartet’s 2021 Colorado residency. The Reentry Initiative empowers individuals transitioning from incarceration to a fulfilling and meaningful life. TRI’s motto of “From Surviving to Thriving” will serve as the hour long concert’s theme, with the Chasqui Quartet selecting and performing music that parallels the path often taken by those released from prison who are on the path to reintegrate into their communities. Beginning with the heavier weight of simply surviving, the music will then build to soaring heights that reflect the experience of TRI members as they learn to thrive in their new worlds. Information about TRI’s work and success stories from members will be incorporated into the concert. The Chasqui Quartet includes violinist Sarah Cranor, violist Han Dewan, cellist Amy Huzjak and is led by conductor and violinist Alejandro Gómez Guillén. Gómez Guillén is no stranger to Colorado, as he earned DMA and MM degrees in conducting and violin performance from the University of Colorado at Boulder and currently serves as Associate Conductor of the Boulder Symphony. He was also a past Music Director for Cantabile, a Boulder-based vocal ensemble. Meet the ensemble's renowned performers here. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the concert begins at 7 p.m at United Church of Christ Longmont, 1500 9th Ave. , Longmont, CO. A reception to meet the players and learn more about TRI will follow the concert.
