Upon returning home from World War II, William “Bill” Powell encountered racial discrimination on the golf course, prompting him to build his own place to play – one where people of all colors would be welcome.
Clearview Golf Club, established in 1946, remains the only golf course designed, built, owned and operated by an African American.
In 2001, The Clearview Legacy Foundation was established preserve the Clearview legacy and facilities for future generations.
Today, Octagon has partnered with Renee Powell, William Powell’s daughter, and the Clearview Legacy Foundation to celebrate the 75th Anniversary of Clearview Golf Club.
