Join fellow cooperators on Tuesday, August 24, at 6:30 pm at Little Red Barn Brewers in Winsted, CT for a 'Community Conversation'-style discussion, taking a look at the changes we've all been through the last 18 months, changes in the grocery business generally, and how do all these issues impact our mission and vision? Do we need changes that reflect the 'new normal', or are our statements still fit for purpose?Little Red Barn will be offering taproom pours for $5.00. Our conversations on August 24 will be reflected in a final draft to be presented for consideration at our 2021 Annual Meeting in September.Mad River Market OUR MISSION Mad River Market is a local effort to create a cooperatively owned grocery store in Winsted, CT in order to supply our community with healthy, local and sustainable food and products. We will nurture social and economic well-being in a democratic and environmentally sensitive manner. OUR VISION Mad River Market in Winsted, CT, will provide: Access to allAn alternative to corporately-run chain grocery storesA market centrally located for walkers, bikers and patrons of public transportationNon-GMO organic food and products, and “clean” conventional products as appropriateSupport for local industry and family farmsFood that you can trust to be healthyMembership advantages in the form of shared decision-making and opportunities for discountsIdentification of the source of all food productsPartnerships with community organizations to make sure families are not food-deprivedOUR VALUES • Eat Healthy • Buy Local • Build Community • April, 2020. Community members from the Northwest Corner are coming together to create a cooperatively owned full-service grocery store to serve our area. As of January 16, 2020, we have 314 member-owners from the towns of Winchester, Torrington, Norfolk, Barkhamsted, Colebrook, New Hartford, Warren, Goshen, West Hartland, Canaan, Riverton and other more distant communities. We have reached our first goal of 300 member-owners, and are finalizing our business plan. Ultimately we will need about 1000 member-owners from throughout our market area to open with confidence. Join us today and bring us that much closer to opening our doors!
