Headwaters Charitable Trust will be hosting a fundraiser with Hoffman Appalachian Hops Farm in St Marys, PA on August 12 from 5- 7 PM. This Hoffman Appalachian Hops Farm Tour will highlight the importance of this growing industry and what it means to the more than 400 craft brewers in Pennsylvania and to Elk County's local economy. Hoffman Appalachian is only one of 17 hops farms in PA. PA also has 410 craft brewers and ranks 3rd most in the US. While many craft breweries serve a local market, they haven’t always sourced local ingredients for their beers due to supply. Expanding hops production is a new priority for the PA Department of Agriculture to meet this need. The tour will also underscore potential for new business development in the processing of hops prior to the sale to breweries. Participants will need to be 21 or older. There will be a $25 entry fee for individuals and $40 entry fee for couples. Payment will be accepted at entrance in cash or check. There will be a 30 person limit.
