Gender and Slavery in Early America: Contextualizing Sylvester Manor - A Porch Talk With Author Dr. Jennifer L. Morgan at Sylvester Manor
Please join us for an exciting Porch Talk at Sylvester Manor on Friday July 30th at 4:30 pm for a discussion by Dr. Jennifer Morgan, Professor of History in the department of Social and Cultural Analysis at New York University. Dr. Morgan will be discussing her latest book,
“Reckoning With Slavery, Gender, Kinship and Capitalism in the Early Black Atlantic”.
Dr. Morgan’s research examines the intersections of gender and race in the Black Atlantic world and her newest work, considers colonial numeracy, racism and the rise of the trans-Atlantic Slave Trade in the seventeenth-century English Atlantic world and is available from Duke University Press. Professor Morgan serves as the Council Chair for the Omohundro Institute for Early American History and Culture. She is the past-Vice President of the Berkshire Conference of Women Historians and is a lifetime member of the Association of Black Women Historians. She lives in New York City and Sag Harbor.
