Description
I have some beautiful Egyptian Spiny Mice who are ready for their new homes, and several who are not ready yet, but will be soon. I own two females and one male and wouldn’t trade them for the world. They are trained to come when I call them, jump into my hand when I say “jump”, and even play outside in my front yard without running off! The perfect pet for just about anybody! So, what is an Egyptian Spiny Mouse? -Not actually a “mouse”! They are closely related to gerbils, behave more like rats, do not smell like any rodent you have ever had (!) and are FANTASTIC for children. How long do they live? -Five-seven years! While rats are highly intelligent and social pets, they unfortunately meet their demise around ages 2-3. Egyptian Spiny Mice will live two/three times as long! What do they eat? -Hamster/rat/mouse pellets with seeds BUT they do require protein. You can throw them some chicken, shrimp, turkey, steak, or buy a high protein pellet diet. Even dog food! Are they easy to care for? -Absolutely. Can they be housed alone? -No! They are very social/loving animals who need a friend in order to avoid depression. They will bond with their human but they must have a friend as well. Can I introduce them to other mice/hamsters/rats/gerbils? -NO! Egyptian Spiny Mice are avid hunters and will absolutely eat another rodent. Are they loud? -No, but when they are happy they do sing and it is a very sweet, high pitched sound that is difficult to hear unless you are really concentrating. Do they bite? -In my personal experience, I have ONLY been bitten when my hands smelled like food. Regular mice absolutely bite all the time (haha), but these guys are NOT aggressive or territorial and have no interest in biting you. Just be sure not to hold them or pet them after you’ve eaten a snack, as it might confuse/entice them! Why have I never heard of them? -These guys are an exotic animal and exotics are not well-known. What is so different between these guys and a regular mouse upon first glance? -Egyptian Spiny Mice have spines on their backs very similar to, but not as sharp as hedgehog quills! **CANNOT BE USED AS FEEDER MICE! THEIR SPINES WILL INJURE A SNAKE!** If you have any questions/concerns/interest please text Mikki at :-) These are all hand-raised babies who are well socialized toward humans and will bring you great joy! I have included photos but if you would like videos just shoot me a text, I have tons. 🐭
