Join us Saturday, August 21st at 4:00 for a screening + Q&A with Director David Abel
CODA takes viewers on a moving journey into the world of a North Shore fishing family who’s working together to keep their struggling business afloat. With this special screening, we invite you to dive even deeper and investigate one of the reasons why New England fisheries, and the lobster industry in particular, face difficulties today. Join us for a screening of David Abel’s award-winning feature, Entangled, followed by a discussion with the director.
Documenting how climate change has accelerated a collision between one of the world’s most endangered species, North America’s most valuable fishery, and a federal agency mandated to protect both, Entangled chronicles efforts to protect North Atlantic right whales from extinction. Today, there are estimated to be about 350 right whales, making them among the planet’s most endangered species. The main threat to their survival, scientists say: millions of lobster lines that stretch from New England up through Atlantic Canada. Entangled chronicles the efforts to protect North Atlantic right whales from extinction, the impacts of those efforts on the lobster industry, and how the National Marine Fisheries Service has struggled to balance the vying interests.
