Lift Every Voice: A Screening and Conversation
Lift Every Voice: A Screening and Conversation
MMoCA Rooftop Sculpture Garden | Free admission
July 29, 2021 | Seating open at 8 pm; screening is at dusk
Join us for a screening of Madison Ballet’s film series, Lift Every Voice, and a conversation with the choreographers, under the stars in MMoCA’s Rooftop Sculpture Garden. The series, filmed on location at MMoCA earlier this year, is the company’s first digital dance production focused on elevating the work of emerging Black choreographers. Choreographers Kia Smith, Rachelle Fochs, and Jacob Ashley are each paired with a filmmaker to bring a new work to life in the three short films.
Lift Every Voice includes Mercy, choreographed by Rachelle Fochs; Ethos of Force, choreographed by Kia Smith, and La Vie En (Ode to Serendipity), choreographed by Jacob Ashley. Each choreographer will describe their projects in advance of their films, and all three choreographers will be available for a question-and-answer session after all three films are viewed.
For more information about the choreographers, visit https://bit.ly/3hSEHzH.
Event capacity is limited so be sure to register in advance. This event is free and open to the public. Chairs will be provided, but bring a camp chair or blanket if you prefer.
The Madison Museum of Contemporary Art is a nonprofit, independent organization that exists to exhibit, collect, preserve, and interpret modern and contemporary art.
MMoCA serves the art life of the community by creating opportunities for direct experience with works of art, by providing a forum for the exchange of ideas about art, and by offering programs to enhance the appreciation and understanding of art.
