It’s roots in the history of wine-making run deep but really started expansion across the entire country during the Medieval period. By the 1950’s Germany’s once famous vineyards and wines disappeared from consciousness… but Germany has been undergoing a quiet revolution in its wines. While still the gold-standard of Riesling Germany makes many different types of whites and does so with that Germanic flair and electricity that makes them so one-of-a-kind. Reds too have taken hold and while many did not enjoy wide export a combination of young intrepid growers hell-bent that the world will understand that Germany is more than just Riesling and importers who have found a calling in the nuanced and ethereal reds of Germania! The German affinity for mostly “small craft oriented” vineyards paired with micro-climates, powered by rivers and mountains, help Germany make some of the most highly sought-after wines in the world.
