TAMPA, FL — At first glance, it looks more like a trendy restaurant than a city pumping station.
That's by design, according to Tampa Mayor Jane Castor who hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the San Carlos Pumping Station Wednesday.
The pumping station at 4406 W. San Carlos St. underwent $25 million in renovations including new pumps, odor control improvements and landscaping and architectural updates to blend with adjacent properties and enhance the neighborhood.
The station was placed into service in 1981 and drastically in need of a major overhaul. The improvements will increase the efficiency and performance, reduce reactive repairs and extend the life cycle of the pumping station for 20 years.
