NORTH ANDOVER, MA — North Andover completed the acquisition of two parcels for the new senior center, the town said Wednesday. The town bought one of the two parcels at the corner of Sutton Street and Surrey Drive. The other was donated to the town by MINCO, a development company based in town. "This was the final step before we can commence construction," Town Manager Melissa Rodrigues said in a statement. "We are thankful to MINCO, and particularly Lou Minicucci, for their generous donation and we look forward to welcoming seniors and other members of our community into their new and improved facility as soon as possible." The Planning Board already approved the proposal to build a two-story, 13,500-square-foot Senior Community Center on the site. The building would include a multi-purpose room, kitchen, cafe/lounge area, office space, fitness room, game room, three activity rooms, an outdoor patio area and 81 dedicated parking spaces on-site. The funding for the project was appropriated at the 2018 and 2019 town meetings. The town awarded a contract to Danvers-based Castagna Construction for the project. "I'd like to recognize our planning, senior center, legal and DPW teams for their incredible work on this project," Select Board Chair Laura Bates said. "Their diligence and commitment to our seniors kept this project on track and has moved us toward this success." The next steps for the project are final permit applications and the demolition of existing structures. More information on the project is available here.
