DAVENPORT, FL —The Polk County Sheriff's Office (PCSO) announced that its ongoing Operation Pop Top initiative on Monday uncovered one store in Polk County, out of 11 it visited, selling alcohol to minors. Operation Pop Top is designed to ensure local businesses are following the law, which prevents alcohol sales to anyone under 21 years of age. According to a release, a 7-Eleven in Davenport, 38409 US 27, was caught in the operation and a store clerk was charged with a misdemeanor. Sheriff's deputies were assisted in the effort by an 18-year-old PCSO Explorer, who visited various stores in the Lake Wales, Winter Haven and Davenport areas. The Explorers are high school students who are interested in a career in law enforcement, the sheriff's office said. "This is an ongoing effort to make sure that stores and their employees aren't violating state law by selling alcohol to anyone under 21 years of age. Great job by the deputies, and a great job to all of the clerks and stores who were compliant with the law," Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd said.
