NEWTON, MA — Newton resident Cove Davis has officially announced her campaign for the open Ward 8 seat of the Newton School Committee. Cove has been involved in the Newton community since she moved here in 2012 with her husband and two sons. She has volunteered with the Memorial Spaulding PTO, the Oak Hill Park Association, and as a Newton Youth Soccer coach. She has served as Principal of the Joseph A. Browne School in Chelsea, Executive Administrator of the Five District Partnership, and has worked as a middle school teacher and counselor in the United States and Europe. "I believe that I can bring a unique perspective to the School Committee and an expertise ineducation that will help improve both the NPS and our School Committee," said Davis in a statement. "I am a life-long educator, both as a teacher and school leader, who is passionate about high quality education and the opportunities that it can unlock for students." "I am very pleased to have the support of so many in our community," she continued. "I am looking forward to meeting people across Newton and hearing about their educational journeys and ideas to improve NPS". As a member of the Newton School Committee, Davis' priorities would include ensuring educational excellence for all students, facilitating a successful return to school, emphasizing communication and transparency, and focusing on upgrading school buildings and infrastructure.
