Natick Gets $337K Grant For Bike, Pedestrian Upgrades

NATICK, MA — MassDOT has awarded Natick a $337,000 grant for a "complete streets" project near Natick High School, state officials announced Tuesday. The grant will go toward installing bike lanes, rebuilding sidewalks, curb extensions and curb ramps along Campus Drive and West Street. The town has identified the area from Pond Street to Main Street/Route 27 as in need of a complete streets upgrade. Right now, the roadway doesn't have any bike lanes, and many curbs and ramps are in poor condition, according to a town evaluation of the route. This winter, Natick launched a survey asking residents to comment on potential complete streets projects, and the area near the high school received many comments. Natick's award was part of a $6 million package released Tuesday by the state funding projects across Massachusetts. The state defines a "complete street" as one that "enables safe, convenient, and comfortable travel for users of all ages and abilities regardless of their mode of transportation."
