Feds File New Charges Against Natick Town Meeting Member

NATICK, MA — A Natick Town Meeting member is now facing three federal misdemeanor charges for participating in the Jan. 6 riot at the U.S. Capitol, according to court records. Sue Ianni, 59, was first arrested and charged in January. On July 2, federal prosecutors officially filed charges against her including disorderly conduct in a Capitol building, disorderly and disruptive conduct in a restricted building or grounds and entering or remaining in a restricted building or grounds, court records show. Ianni was photographed inside the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6 with fellow Super Happy Fun America member Mark Sahady, a Malden resident. The group hired 11 buses to ferry local conservatives to a rally organized by former president Donald Trump that coincided with Congress certifying the 2021 election. Following a speech by Trump on Jan. 6, rally attendees marched to the Capitol, and hundreds flooded into the building while fighting with police. A rally attendee, Ashli Babbitt, of California, was shot and killed by Capitol police during a confrontation near the House chambers. Four other people died, as did Capitol police officer Brian Sicknick. Ianni was released after her arrest in January, and participated in the 2021 Natick spring town meeting. Town leaders have said they cannot unseat Ianni because she has been charged. She is up for reelection in 2022, according to the Town Clerk.
