Medfield Honors MFD Captain Mike Harman The town of Medfield has been in mourning since July 10th, when hearing of the unexpected passing of beloved MFD Captain Mike Harman. On Wednesday, July 21st, Captain Harman made his final ride through Medfield on Engine 3. The fire truck paused briefly in front of the decorated Public Safety Building (Fire Station) as fellow firefighters and police stood at attention, on the right and the left of Harman's firefighting gear, saluting and paying tribute to their friend. The procession route began at the Roberts Mitchell Caruso Funeral Home on Miller Street and concluded at Vine Lake Cemetery. The procession gave local residents a chance to turn out to show their gratitude. Townspeople of all ages, some that were friends and relatives, as well as some that never had met Captain Harman, came out to pay their respects to this beloved FF/EMT and public servant. They were holding signs of love and support, clutching flags, placing their hand over their heart, waving from their windows or just staying silent as the procession passed by. All the children and staff at the Pfaff Center Park & Recreation summer camp sat on the sidewalk to show appreciation to Captain Harman as he passed by. Another youngster on North Street was donning a fireman's hat and others paid respect by leaving flowers at the base of the flagpole, growing this memorial. Fire trucks and Police vehicles from Walpole, Millis, Medway and other surrounding towns were there to pay tribute as well. Led by motorcycle officers from Walpole, Franklin, Millis and Norfolk the procession went slowly on the streets of Medfield. The motorcycles were followed by a flower car and the MFD Chief car, all ahead of Engine 3 which carried Captain Harman and his family. MFD Car 3, often driven by Harman was directly behind Engine 3 followed by Medfield Police and invited guests as they drove to the cemetery. Once the procession arrived at Vine Lake cemetery, the burial was private, so the townspeople went home, but the outpouring of care and concern Medfield has for the Harman family was evident and will continue. Captain Michael Harman was a humble, kindhearted, respectful individual with a benevolent smile. Medfield bid farewell to MFD Captain Mike Harman, but he will not be forgotten and he will be greatly missed in Medfield and beyond.
