MARLBOROUGH, MA — The Boys and Girls Clubs of MetroWest is one of 74 organizations across the state that will be able to hire local teens this summers thanks in part to a $300,000 grant from Attorney General Maura Healey's office. Here's more from an AG's office press release: Attorney General Maura Healey today announced that her office is awarding nearly $300,000 in grant funding to 74 organizations across the state to fund summer jobs for young people that are focused on promoting health and wellness. This is the seventh year that the AG's Office is running the Healthy Summer Youth Jobs Grant Program, which enables teens to have a direct impact in their communities by working in jobs that promote good nutrition, physical fitness and healthy living. The grant program is funded with health care and fair labor related settlement money from the AG's Office. As the state continues to recover from the COVID-19 pandemic, grantees will continue to provide personal protective equipment (PPE), incorporate social distancing, and transition to virtual workplaces where appropriate. "Our summer jobs program provides hundreds of teens across the state with an opportunity to challenge themselves, gain new skills, and make a difference in their own communities by promoting healthy living," AG Healey said. "We have worked hard to continue this program each year and are grateful to our grantees for making important adjustments to their programs to ensure employed teens are safe as we recover from the pandemic." This summer, the AG's Community Engagement Division will be providing webinars and in-person trainings on workers' rights to teens employed through the grant program. Examples of jobs funded through this year's grant program include: Building and maintaining a community garden or urban farm; Addressing food security and wellness needs of low-income communities; Providing educational content on the environment and local natural resources; and Instructing youth on recreational and wellness activities. Since launching the grant program in 2015, AG Healey has funded more than 1,000 jobs for young people across the state. This year, 74 organizations – including nonprofits, municipalities, and other government offices – will be receiving funding through the program, including: Barnstable County Pleasant Bay Community Boating in Harwich Cape Cod YMCA in Sandwich Berkshire County Greenagers, Inc. in South EgremontBerkshire South Regional Community Center in Great BarringtonHancock Shaker Village in Pittsfield Bristol County Community Boating Center of New BedfordBoys and Girls Club of Fall River in AssonetBoys & Girls Clubs of Metro South in Brockton and Taunton Dukes County Island Grown Initiative in West TisburyMartha's Vineyard Boys & Girls Club Essex County Backyard Growers in GloucesterBeyond Soccer, Inc. in LawrenceCamp Fire North Shore in SalemCity of NewburyportGroundwork LawrenceNew American Association of Massachusetts in LynnSuenos Basketball in LawrenceYMCA of Metro North in PeabodyYMCA of the North Shore in BeverlyThe Food Project Inc. in Lynn Franklin Country Greenfield Recreation DepartmentHilltown Youth & Recovery Theatre in Shelburne FallsHampden CountyGardening the Community, a Project of Third Sector New England in SpringfieldBoys and Girls Club of Greater WestfieldAscentria Community Services, Inc in West SpringfieldBoys & Girls Club of Greater Holyoke, IncSpringfield Boys & Girls Club, Inc Hampshire County Amherst Survival CenterAll Out Adventures in NorthamptonMMASDC, Inc. in AmherstCity of Easthampton Middlesex County The3PointFoundation in West NewtonBoys & Girls Clubs of MetroWest in MarlboroughCommunity Farms Outreach in WalthamMill City Grows in LowellMystic Valley YMCA in MaldenREACH Beyond Domestic Violence in WalthamCity of SomervilleWatertown Boys and Girls ClubPhillips Brooks House Association, Inc in BostonCambodian Mutual Assistance Association of Greater Lowell, IncMetroWest YMCA in FraminghamCambridge Camping AssociationBoys & Girls Clubs of Stoneham & Wakefield Norfolk County Old Colony YMCA in StoughtonTown of RandolphSouth Shore YMCA in Quincy Worcester County Making Opportunity Count (MOC, Inc.) in FitchburgAnsaar of Worcester, IncBoys & Girls Club of WorcesterCity of WorcesterGirls Inc. of WorcesterHockomock Area YMCA in MilfordRegional Environmental Council in WorcesterYMCA of Central Massachusetts in Worcester Plymouth County Family and Community Resources, Inc in BrocktonThe Boys & Girls Club of Marshfield Suffolk County All Dorchester Sports & Leadership in DorchesterBikes Not Bombs, Inc in Jamaica PlainBlack Ministerial Alliance of Greater BostonCasa Myrna Vazquez, Inc. in BostonCity of Revere/Revere on the MoveCommunity Rowing, Inc in BrightonLa Alianza Hispana in BostonLevel Ground Mixed Martial Arts in DorchesterMattapan Food and Fitness CoalitionPiers Park Sailing Center in East BostonSt. Stephen's Youth Programs in BostonYMCA of Greater BostonBoys & Girls Clubs of BostonCharlestown CoalitionThe Boston Project Ministries in DorchesterGreenRoots in ChelseaCity of Chelsea - Public Works AG Healey's Healthy Summer Youth Jobs Grant Program will fund employment for young people at the organizations from July 5, 2021 through September 3, 2021.
