Press release from the Malden Public Schools of Malden Massachusetts: July 23, 2021 Dear Malden Public Schools Caregivers and Families, Please let me introduce myself. I am Ligia Noriega-Murphy, the new Superintendent for the Malden Public Schools. I know that some of you are anxious to know what is going on with Before and Afterschool Programs for the 2021-22 school year. We will be able to run the Before School Program at full capacity, but we may have to run our Afterschool Program at a lower capacity due to staffing shortage. Since last spring, the Malden Out-of-School Time (MOST) Program team has been working extremely hard to relaunch the Before and Afterschool Programs at Beebe, Forestdale, Linden and Salemwood for the 2021-2022 school year. Like many industries affected by COVID, however, child care providers and schools have been deeply impacted by program closures and staffing shortages. As a result, seats in the Afterschool Program for the new school year will be extremely limited as we relaunch the program. We are doing our very best to recruit staff for our Before and Afterschool Programs. The goal is to gradually increase enrollment throughout the school year as new staff are hired and trained at each site. We would like to see if you can assist us in recruiting staff.
