FRANKLIN, WI — Franklin's 1st Alderperson District will be vacant after Tuesday. Mark Dandrea, the current Alderman for the district, resigned last week in a letter to residents and the Franklin Common Council. Dandrea, whose last day is Wednesday, would have had his seat until April of 2022. Until the April 5 election can be held next year, the Common Council will accept letters of interest for filling the 1st District Vacancy, according to the Common Council July 20 agenda. Dandrea submitted a letter to residents and common council members in Franklin informing them of his resignation. The letter says that Dandrea's wife found a new job opportunity in Fort Lauderdale — the two have decided to sell their Franklin home and move out of state to pursue the new job. "I have been truly honored to serve the residents of the 1st District for almost 8 and a half years and the entire city for a decade," Dandrea said in his letter. "The constituents of the 1st District have been supportive, civic minded, involved, and respectful, truly making my position as Alderman easier than most." Alderman Dandrea's resignation letter set his final date with Franklin as Wednesday. Dandrea has served three terms as an Alderman in Franklin. He was also the Common Council President in his most recent term. "Please accept my best wishes for the future to each on of you, the City of Franklin, and I extend my support to my successor," Dandrea said in his letter to residents and the Common Council. The Common Council will accept letters of interest in the now vacant Common Council seat after its meeting Tuesday. Although details have yet to be confirmed by the Common Council, the July 20 Common Council Agenda says that letters of interest will be accepted until August 12. Those interested in the temporary appointment will then be able to make a presentation in front of the Common Council at its August 17 meeting. An election will be held on April 5, 2022, to fill the 1st District seat.
